New theme, faster performance, Symfony 6.4 and Admin API – we look at all the new features in PrestaShop 9.0 Beta and what they mean for your online store.
What's new in PrestaShop version 9.0?
PrestaShop 9.0 Beta is now available and brings with it a number of long-awaited improvements for both online store owners and developers. Although this is not yet the final stable version, we can already take a look at its key new features:
1. Symfony 6.4 and faster backend
PrestaShop now uses Symfony 6.4 LTS – a new, lighter and more secure version of one of the most popular PHP frameworks. This improves:
-
charging speed;
-
security;
-
long-term support from Symfony developers.
2. PHP 8.4 support
The new version supports the latest PHP version – 8.4, which includes a number of optimizations and new features. This makes PrestaShop even faster and ready for the future.
3. New Admin API
A new administrative API has been added, based on the API Platform, which will allow:
-
easier automation;
-
connection to warehouse and ERP systems;
-
custom backend interfaces.
Important: The API is currently in early development and will be developed in future releases.
4. The new Hummingbird theme
PrestaShop also introduces a completely new theme: Hummingbird
Built on Bootstrap 5, TypeScript and the BEM methodology for CSS structuring.
This means:
-
better support for mobile devices;
-
modern and clean design;
-
easier customization by developers.
5. Refreshed admin panel
-
Clearer fonts and icons;
-
Better visual organization of content;
-
Improved UX logic in frequently used menus.
6. Better security
The version includes:
-
update all external dependencies;
-
removal of discovered vulnerabilities;
-
a new risk reporting system.
7. Clean and simplified code
-
Deprecated functions and classes have been removed;
-
Reduced complexity of the underlying architecture;
-
Easier development and bug fixing in the future.
Should we update now?
Despite all the improvements, the 2025.viste.bg/ team does not recommend immediately updating operating online stores to PrestaShop 9.0 until:
-
all core modules will not be fully compatible with the new version;
-
real-world tests do not confirm stability and compatibility;
-
The community did not accumulate enough feedback from live stores.
Our advice is: wait for a stable version and confirmed compatibility before moving on to a major update to avoid possible technical issues and downtime.
Summary
PrestaShop 9.0 is an important step forward – with a new structure, better security and developer convenience. But for the end user and online store owner, the best time to update will be after the ecosystem (modules, themes, integrations) is ready.
